More Compliments than Cash: My day at Parent University
Parent University is our city’s annual program designed to help parents help their school-aged kids. There are workshops, food, entertainment and local vendors. I was one of the vendors.
They supplied the table and chairs; all I had to bring were my cards, comics, caricature stuff and signage. I did caricatures of the guests and sold my note cards and my minibook of cartoons, “Our Follies”. At least that was what was supposed to happen.
That day I did one caricature in black and white, sold two or three cards and one minibook, and made the grand total of six dollars. On the other hand, four different ladies asked for my cartooning services in the future, including a college student needing an illustrator for her children’s book and a gradeschool principal who would like me to do a cartoon workshop at her school.
So yesterday’s Parent U was not a total loss–I usually get more compliments that cash at this event. As for the cash–hey, that’s six dollars I didn’t have before!
